KKI is absolutely committed to teaching what is believed to be the “Truth” about canines and their behavior. KKI will always put the well being of the dog first and foremost, even in the face of adversity.

Little Mutts Rescue is a new rescue in town and I might add are considered very good friends of Konfident Kanines.

We have just started our rescue this year aimed at saving small breed dogs specifically 25lbs or under. Even though we would love to save dogs of all sizes and breeds, our rescue was formally started to meet the adoption demand in Calgary and area of smaller breed dogs, so as to provide dog adopters an alternative from having to go to a pet store, backyard breeder or puppy mill. We mainly deal with high kill shelters in the USA as there are so many small breed dogs in these shelters that have to be put to sleep everyday. We don't feel that a dogs' location should discriminate whether it should be saved, when there are so many homes available here to take them in. We also work with the Cabo San Lucas Humane Society as they are extremely over-burdened with dogs, and rescue small dogs and puppies from their shelter as well.

Little Mutts Rescue is 100% volunteer based and non-profit. All funds go toward saving more dogs in need. We are non-shelter based and are a no-kill organization - all our dogs are kept in private foster homes where they can be rehabilitated and loved until the right home comes along.

Little Mutts Rescue was founded by Amy Gowertz, (photo) who has over 2 years experience in dog rescue. Amy was the Adoption Coordinator for over a year for another local rescue, before deciding to start her own so that she could concentrate on saving small breed dogs with her relationships in the USA and Mexico. Amy has helped volunteer at the Cabo San Lucas Humane Society several times, and goes down 2 times a year to help out at the shelter. She has adopted 3 rescue dogs herself, 2 of which were saved from Hurricane Katrina, and the other who is a heartworm survivor from the Southern USA.

Even if you aren't able to currently adopt a rescue dog, you can still help save a dog's life! By fostering, volunteering, or donating to the rescue, you can still help save a dog from being unnecessarily euthanized. If you are planning a trip to LA, San Francisco, Louisiana or Cabo San Lucas, you can also help by flying dogs back to Calgary. Little Mutts Rescue has experienced contacts that will meet you at the airport to check-in the dogs, as well as Little Mutts representatives in Calgary that will meet you at the airport when you land. All additional expenses will be covered by the rescue. By flying dogs from these cities to Calgary for the rescue, you are personally saving the lives of those dogs.

Little Mutts Rescue thanks you for your support and looks forward to hearing from you!!

Just a leisurly and scenic drive from Calgary Island Lake Lodge is a place my family and I are going to investigate. I know many of you, like me and my family, strive to include our pet in our travel plans. What better way to do it than to support fellow Canadian's and take your pet along as well. So now when you want to take advantage of that "weekend getaway" you will not have to spend a single minute worrying about your beloved pet while you are away. They can enjoy those getaways right along with you. Pack your bags, some food for your canine family member, and Island Lake Lodge will do the rest!!!

Check it out....maybe we will see you there!!!

Some people inspire you in ways they may not comprehend.

One such person has recently inspired me although I am not sure she knows it.

I look forward to meeting her.

Words of Wisdom

  • The dog is loved by old and young, he wags his tail and not his tongue.

  • The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character.

  • To go against the dominant thinking of your friends, of most of the people you see every day, is perhaps the most difficult act of heroism you can perform.

  • The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.
